Abstract
This study is designed to look into the relationship between elementary school students¡¯ habit of eating between meals and their dental care condition and their dental caries. With this in mind, the researcher worked with a total of 289 sixth graders attending two elementary schools in Seoul with the help of questionnaires, relying on SPSSWIN 10.0 for the analysis of the materials. The researcher reached the following conclusions. 1. Most of the subjects turned out to eat between meals once a day, between lunch and dinner. 2. The survey on the actual condition of dental care revealed that most of the subjects(64.0£¥) brushed their teeth twice a day and that the girls who brushed their teeth more than three times a day accounted for 31.59£¥ and that the boys who brushed their teeth more than three times a day stood at 17.1%. There was a statistically significant difference in the academic background of their mothers. 3. 76.5 percent of the subjects brushed their teeth up and down, which made a statistically significant difference in the educational level of their mothers. 52.6 percent of the subjects proved to brush their teeth before going to bed. 4. In terms of the subjects¡¯ DMFT index, the boys accounted for 3.30 and the girls stood at 3.00. The less their mothers were educated, the higher DMFT index was. There was a statistically significant difference. 5. The survey on the relationship between elementary school students¡¯ habit of eating between meals and their dental care condition and their dental caries shows that there was a statistically significant difference and that there was no significant difference between the frequency of brushing teeth and the method of brushing teeth.
